Honest Work

About

This is an adaptation of a pro-labour folk song by the same name. Admittedly, I've only worked a handful of few blue-collar jobs, so perhaps this isn't my story to tell, but I wanted to explore a definition of "stress" which centers around financial hardship rather than my usual ramblings about self-actualization.

Lyrics

I'm not afraid to bend my back
Won't turn away from honest work.
But when she calls me,
Do I leave from my station?
Can I afford to take a loss for the sake of love?

I want the freedom that money can bring.
I'll join the ranks of people that sing,
"O, Brother, tell me – were we always a part of this machine?
Forgo the captains, burning the empire down.
We'll stand together, enriched in unity."
